Lava Stone Cameo Brooch

Italy | c. 1840

The oval volcanic lava stone cameo carved in relief, depicting Artemis in profile, wearing classical dress, her hair flowing freely about her shoulders, gazing down at a bird as she clasps it closely to her breast. The stone held in a fine silver-gilt frame with rope-twist border, simple pin clasp and a hanging loop to the reverse.
