Imposing Statuary Marble Bust of Napoleon Bonaparte

After Antoine-Denis Chaudet (1763-1810) and possibly by Richard Westmacott (1775-1856)

Height 26 ½” (67 cm)

Interestingly this bust was photographed with a companion bust of Charles James Fox of similarly large proportions, signed by Richard Westmacott and dated 1818, in the dining room of Trethill House, Cornwall. It is notable that both socles are identical which tentatively suggests that Westmacott could also have been the sculptor of the Napoleon bust although there appears to be no existing record in the Dictionary of British Sculptors.
