This rare set of finely shaped chairs exemplifies the refined craftsmanship and artistic flair of the Venetian cabinet makers of the mid-18th century. Each chair is made of walnut and painted with extensive layers of pigment to create a lustrous lacquer finish which is further enhanced with gilt detail. The central splat of each chair is decorated with a different oriental figure indicating that these chairs were likely to have been created for the entrance hall of an important residence.
